MEXICAN SOUR GHERKIN CUCUMBER

Don't let the name of this small cucumber-like fruit fool you. This cute little gherkin is also known as "mouse melon" and "little watermelon" by the Natives of Mexico and Central America where it has been enjoyed for centuries. Only about an inch long, it looks like a tiny watermelon, oval and smooth skinned with stripes like a watermelon. The taste has a hint of citrus with sweet cucumber flavor. Support the long vigorous vines for best results. Pickle, add to salads or eat fresh. Tiny fruit fall off the vines when ripe, as the fruit matures the stripes fade and the flesh becomes a little sour.
